Dr. Alexander Solky

Medical School: University of Rochester
Residency: University of Rochester

It would not be an exaggeration to say that medicine is in the blood of Dr. Solky.  The son of two Rochester physicians, Dr. Solky decided on a career in oncology in part because he remembers so well the cancer diagnoses in his own family.

“I can’t even tell you how many people in my family have had cancer,” he said. “and when I was in medical residency I thought, maybe I could move cancer care forward right here in Rochester.” It is a responsibility that he does not take lightly.

“We’re allowed into people’s lives at the most trying of times. You’re trusted to take care of people and their families when the chips are down, when they are at their most vulnerable,” he said. “People literally trust us with their lives, and we work very hard to live up to that trust.”

He was a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Guideline Update Committee which rewrote the adjuvant endocrine therapy for woman with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer guidelines and published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, August 10, 2010.  His research interests are related to long term quality of life issues for patients receiving chemotherapy.  Dr. Solky is Board Certified in Medical Oncology.  He is currently the President of Interlakes Oncology and Hematology, P.C.

Outside of the office, Dr. Solky enjoys golf, spending time with his young son and wife, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Rochester, Valerie Lang, M.D.
